PROJECT DNF

posted December 02, 2016

i wanted to build a powerful GS1000 for a long time, but i had no plans to start that project any time soon.

That all changed when i got the opportunity to buy some very nice parts.

The original owner had an engine built, front fork with custom triple tree, new stainless steel one off 4-in-2 exhaust with Yoshi TRS cans, custom swingarm, etc.

Then decided not to finish the project and sold the bike.

The next owner also decided not to finish the project and sell off most parts.

So 'Project DNF' seems a good name for my new build.

I bought the engine, exhaust, and front fork.

Check out the nice bike the seller was breaking ...

The engine

  • rebuilt by Straightline Performance (UK)
  • completely overhauled
  • expected to produce 130-140 HP

Parts :

  • welded crank
  • Dyna S ignition
  • Dyna 3 Ohm green coils
  • Wiseco 1100 big bore kit
  • Webcam camshafts
  • Flowed head
  • New 34mm Keihin CR carbs

Front Fork

not sure what bike the fork legs came from. Kawa ZX10R, GSX-R 1000 ?

Triple tree - MV Agusta ?

Exhaust

Custom made 4-in-2 stainless steel exhaust.

Beautiful welds, new Yoshi pots

WHEELS

I like the look of the 3-spoked PVM wheels.

A nice set of 18 inch wheels will be used.

320mm front brake discs will be fitted to the wheels because the position of the brake calipers is fixed.

The rear will be fitted with a small disc and caliper.

Front wheel fitted

this took a bit of measuring !

But now the old PVM wheel fits the modern fork.

Rear wheel fitted

New brake anchor plate, and the wheel correctly spaced.

Small rear disc and Brembo caliper. Nice brake push rod.

This looks great !
